E.J. Cockfield and family papers, 1854-1886, 1913-1930 (bulk 1875-1886).

The E.J. Cockfield and Family Papers consist of legal and business records, letters, programs, and memorandum books created and accumulated by E.J. Cockfield, A.P. Cockfield, and Estelle Cockfield. The papers between 1854 and 1876 consist of business records of E.J. Cockfield and legal documents concerning the settlement of the estates of his brothers, Josiah W., L.D., and W.J. Cockfield. Papers between 1877 and 1886 consist of correspondence and business papers of E.J. and A.P. Cockfield, as well as letters from the Cockfield family in Williamsburg County, S.C. Papers after 1912 are chiefly those of Estelle Cockfield, including programs for musicals and plays at Louisiana State Normal College and letters from her brother serving in the Navy during World War I.

Ebenezer Joseph Cockfield was a planter and businessman of Natchitoches Parish, La. His nephew, Anglo P. Cockfield, came to Louisiana from South Carolina in 1877 to manage one of the Cockfield plantations, Beulah Plantation. A.P. Cockfield's daughter, Estelle, attended Providence Academy in Alexandria, La., and Louisiana State Normal College in Natchitoches, La. She later taught in the Louisiana public schools.
